    German steel has a lower carbon content compared to Japanese made steel. This means German made steel knives are softer, making them more durable as well as allowing them to hold a sharp edge longer without sharpening.

    Full tang means that the solid piece of metal that constitutes the blade runs down the handle as well. This helps improve the weight and strength of the knife.

    Your knife will last many many years as long as it is well taken care of with sharpening and honing when appropriate.

    There are multiple ways to go about sharpening your Equal Parts knife. A traditional knife sharpener will work in a pinch but we recommend using a whetstone. Make sure to check the manufactures instructions for your whetstone to see if yours should be wet before use. Watching a tutorial online can be helpful for first time users.
    Another important step to maintaining your knife is to hone it often. This means using a honing device which pushes the edge of the knife back to the center and straightens it.
